Browser Tool — Multi-monitor POS browser launcher for Windows and Linux

Browser Tool is a lightweight utility for point-of-sale and kiosk setups that need one or more browser windows open on specific monitors — for example a cashier screen and a customer-facing display.

It ships as two small apps:

  • Config — define screens (name, URL, monitor, window or tab, fullscreen or maximized), choose Edge / Chrome / Brave, and optionally start with Windows or Linux login.

  • Launcher — opens every enabled screen from your saved settings, with no extra UI.

Settings are stored next to the install. Config is encrypted and the key stays in the OS credential store (Windows Credential Manager or Linux Secret Service), so copying only the config file to another machine is not enough to read it.

Downloads

  1. Windows: browser-tool-setup.exe

  2. Linux : browser-tool-linux.tar.gz

These links always point at the latest build.

Install — Windows

  1. Download and run browser-tool-setup.exe.

  2. Choose the drive where the app should live (for example D:).

  3. Setup creates D:\browser-tool\ (or the drive you picked) with Config, Launcher, and a log folder.

  4. Open Browser Tool Config, add your screens, click Save, then Save & Test Open to verify.

Install — Linux

tar xf browser-tool-linux.tar.gz
cd browser-tool-linux
./install.sh # default: ~/browser-tool
# or: ./install.sh /opt/browser-tool

Then run Config from the install folder, save your screens, and use the launcher to open them.

Requirements

  • Windows, or Linux with a desktop environment (including Hyprland / Omarchy-style setups)

  • Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome, Chromium, or Brave

  • One or more monitors (multi-monitor layouts are the main use case)

Updates

After install, open Config and use Update. The app checks for a newer version, replaces the program files in place, and restarts — no uninstall/reinstall. Your config.json, logs, and browser profiles are left alone.

What’s included in this line of releases

Built-in update from Config

Support notes

If something fails at launch or login, check the daily log under the install folder’s log/ directory. On Windows, SmartScreen may warn on first run until the installer builds reputation; choose “More info” → “Run anyway” when you trust the download source above.
